Following on from my previous post, here I will outline a few of the most commonly used homeopathic remedies for hayfever, to help you choose the best one for you.
Before reading on have a think about all the aspects of your hayfever that you find most distressing or, even better, write them down. Then take a look at the list below and find the remedy that is the closest match to your symptoms.
There are more than 25 different homeopathic remedies used in the acute treatment of hayfever, that is the symptoms experienced during the hayfever season. Here are the key indications for my top six:
Allium Cepa – Sneezing with a watery discharge that burns the nose and upper lip; streaming eyes; tickling in the back of the throat; feels worse in warm rooms; feels better outside in fresh air.
Euphrasia – Sneezing with a bland, watery discharge from the nose (not burning); sensitivity to bright lights with burning discharge from the eyes; cough with phlegm; eyes are worse in windy weather.
Arsenicum Iodatum – Violent sneezing with a thick, yellow, honey-like discharge; sore, burning eyes, nose and throat; irritating cough; nothing seems to bring relief.
Nux Vomica – Lots of sneezing with a blocked nose; extreme irritation and itching affects the eyes, nose, throat and ears; headache; sensitive to the cold; hayfever makes you feel irritable.
Sabadilla – Fits of sneezing with copious, watery discharge and a blocked nose; watery eyes with red, swollen eyelids; sore throat with pain on swallowing that is relieved when drinking a warm drink; you may feel cold and want to wrap up warm.
Arundo Mauritanica – Sneezing with firstly a watery discharge and then it may become thick and green; itching and burning in the nose, ears and especially the roof of the mouth; can be affected early in the hayfever season.
